Welcome to the memorial page for

Betty (Brotherton) McKinney

November 6, 1933 ~ May 15, 2017 (age 83) 83 Years Old

Betty Brotherton McKinney, age 83, of Morristown, went to be with the Lord in Heaven on Monday morning, May 15, 2017. She was a loving and caring mother, grandmother, and great-grandmother. To her family and friends, she would always say, “I love you the most,” and there was no point in arguing with her. She was a retired Registered Nurse at Morristown-Hamblen Healthcare System. There, Betty worked tirelessly, leading by example by giving her all to her patients and helping welcoming babies into the world, and, in a way, becoming part of their families as well. Betty was a devoted Christian and a long-time member of Calvary Baptist Church, where she enjoyed her Sunday School class and attending the church service. Betty was preceded in death by her parents, Clifford and Mary Brotherton; brothers, William Guy Brotherton, Andrew Brotherton, and Paul Brotherton; and husband, C.L. McKinney. Betty and C.L. were married for almost fifty-seven years; he was the love of her life and she was his. Together, they were members at Kerbela Temple in Knoxville and worked to raise funds to help children with burns, injuries, and physical deformities. In 1998, C.L. became Potentate and she was his Lady Betty. Betty is survived by her daughters, Mary Lynn Coates (James), Lois McKinney, and Sandra McKinney-Whitt; grandchildren, Angela McKinney-Smith (Matt), Megan Coates, Katherine Coates, and Travis Whitt; great-grandchildren, Holden Smith and Jordan Whitt; siblings, George Brotherton and Patsy Brotherton; and several nieces and nephews. Betty passed away at Dewitt Assisted Living.
