Joan F. Oliver Allred, age 81, of Talbott, passed away and entered the arms of Jesus on Wednesday, August 23, 2017. She had fought a thirty-plus year battle with rheumatoid arthritis. She was a member of Alpha Baptist Church. Joan was a courageous woman who loved her family, old movies, and dogs. “I fought the good fight, I’ve finished the race, I kept the faith.” II Timothy 4:7. She was preceded in death by her parents, James Carter Oliver and Viola Blanche Oliver; and sister, Louise Casey. She leaves behind to mourn her, husband of fifty-nine years, Glenn Allred; daughter and son-in-law, Anna and Don Haney of Knoxville; brothers, Melvin and Gene Oliver, both of Elizabethton; and many nieces, nephews, great-nieces, great-nephews, and cousins. The family expresses their gratitude to Home Instead Senior Care, Amedisys Hospice, and Dr. David Johnson, Dr. Peter Sutherland, and the late Dr. John Kinser. The family will receive friends from 6 – 7:30 p.m. Friday, August 25 at Westside Chapel Funeral Home. Funeral services will follow at 7:30 p.m. Friday at the funeral home with Rev. Sherry Seay officiating. Family and friends will meet at 10 a.m. Saturday, August 26 at Jefferson Memorial Gardens Mausoleum for entombment services.
