Joseph A. Watkins, Jr., age 85, went to be with his heavenly father on Saturday, December 3, 2016 at Morristown-Hamblen Healthcare System. He was a retired maintenance supervisor with Hamblen County School System after 21 years of service. He was a faithful servant and member of Morningside Baptist Church where he was saved, and in 1975 ordained as deacon. He always carried candy to share and was known as the “Candy Man”. He was preceded in death by his parents, Joseph Watkins Sr. and Betty Watkins; sons, Joseph Frank Watkins and Robert John Watkins; sister, Ruth Horner; brothers Dick Watkins, Charles (Betty) Watkins, Bill Watkins, and James “J.W.” Watkins; father-in-law, Frank William Walker; mother-in-law, Aileen Walker Lively; brothers-in-law, Lynn Walker and Joseph Robert Walker; and sister-in-law, Anne (John) Tucker. He is survived by his loving wife of 60 years Elizabeth Walker Watkins; special daughter-in-law, Charlotte Smith Watkins; brother, Wayne (Anita) Watkins; sister, Shirley (James) Snowden; brothers-in-law, James Eddie (Grace) Walker, and John (Kathy) Walker; sisters-in-law, Janice Walker, Kaye Walker, Ruth Watkins, Eula Watkins, and Kaye Watkins; Also several nieces, nephews, and a host of friends and relatives. Special friends include his church family at Morningside Baptist Church, The Rev. Travis and Heather Porterfield, Daniel, Adam, Joe, and all the employees at Kenny’s Body Shop. The family will receive friends from 5-7 pm on Monday, December 5, 2016 at Morningside Baptist Church. Funeral services will follow at 7 pm with Rev. Ross Woody, Rev. Travis Porterfield, and Rev. Harold Noe officiating. Family and friends will meet at 11 am on Tuesday, December 6th at Hamblen Memory Gardens for graveside service. In lieu of flowers donations may be made to Morningside Baptist Church in memory of Joe Watkins, Jr. or the charity of your choice. Arrangements by Westside Chapel Funeral Home in Morristown.
