Robert E. Leonard, passed away at his home in Morristown on Friday, November 10, 2017. He was 84 years old. Robert was born in Patton, Pennsylvania and lived the last forty-eight years of his life in Morristown. Robert joined the U.S. Army when he was sixteen and was stationed at Fort Dix, New Jersey in November, 1949. He graduated a member of Airborne Class 42, Fort Benning, Georgia in May, 1951. He was subsequently assigned to H Company, 172nd Infantry Regiment Warner Kaserne, Munich, Germany, in March, 1952. Robert was a professional truck driver and began that career driving for an independent steel company in Pennsylvania. A job opportunity with Motor Cargo moved him and his family to Akron, Ohio in April, 1957. He was working for Roadway Express (Roadway) when he transferred to Morristown in August, 1969. He drove for Roadway over thirty-five years and during that period, he drove more than three million miles, driving in excess of 2.5 million miles without an accident. Robert was honored with more than thirty annual safe driving awards throughout his career with Roadway. He was a member of the Teamsters for forty-one years. He loved his family and his job. He enjoyed riding his horses and motorcycles with his family and friends. Robert was preceded in death by his parents, Robert Henry and Emeline Leonard; wife, Dorothy Gregory Leonard; and sister, Janice Hines. He is survived by his sisters, Norma of Bridgeton, NJ and Mary of Sebastian, FL; children, Robert W. (Veronica) Leonard of Talbott, Cheree Leonard Hines of Morristown, Kris G. Leonard of Knoxville, and Michelle (Herman) Self of Talbott; six grandchildren; and two great-grandchildren. The family will have a private entombment service. Arrangements by Westside Chapel Funeral Home in Morristown.
