Bessie Howerton Lakins, age 89, of Morristown, passed away Sunday, May 14, 2017 at her residence. She was preceded in death by her husband, Willie Lakins; daughter, Anne Kirk; parents, Robert and Lillie Ratliff Howerton; sisters, Grace Smith, Gertie Collins, Lucy Seals, Lona Johnson, and Susie Coffey; and brothers, Clay and Dayton Howerton. She is survived by her daughter, Rita (Tommie) McDonald; son, Joe (Leigh Anne) Lakins; grandchildren, Lorrie (Brian) Rager, Jason Sturm, Jeremy Sturm, and Justin (Caroline) Lakins; great-grandchildren, Lily Sturm, Brian Rager II, Avary Rager, Ani Lakins, and Ava Lakins; brothers, Johnny and Junior Howerton; and a host of nieces and nephews. The family will receive friends from 6 – 8 p.m. Thursday, May 18 at Westside Chapel Funeral Home. Funeral services will follow at 8 p.m. Thursday at the funeral home with Rev. Dennis Johnson and Rev. Ray Seal officiating. Family and friends will meet at 10 a.m. Friday, May 19 at Hamblen Memory Gardens for graveside services. Arrangements by Westside Chapel Funeral Home in Morristown.
