Betty Thurman Lucas, age 90, of Morristown, passed away Sunday, January 13, 2019. She was a loving wife, mother, and grandmother who will be dearly missed by her family and many friends. She was born and raised in Kansas City, relocated to Wichita Falls, Texas in 1968, and resided there until her move to Morristown in 2010. Betty’s interests included photography, knitting, sewing, painting, reading, raising violets, and actively volunteering throughout her life. She loved the church and was also a dedicated volunteer in many capacities, including First Step, an organization for battered women. She received many awards for her talents and commitment to helping others. She was a member of First Presbyterian Church of Morristown. She was preceded in death by her parents, Merrill and Alice Thurman; and her husband of fifty-nine years, William D. Lucas. She is survived by her brother, Bob Thurman of Kansas City; daughter, Janette (John) Coil of Kansas City; son, Wayne (Sharon) Lucas of Morristown; grandchildren, Phillip Coil, Jennifer Coil, Nicholas Coil, Kara White, and Tyler Lucas; and seven great-grandchildren. The family will receive friends from 1 – 2 p.m. Saturday, January 19th at First Presbyterian Church of Morristown. A memorial service will follow at 2 p.m. at the church.
