Billy Joe Woody, age 85, of Morristown, won his victory and went to be with his Savior on Saturday, June 17, 2017 surrounded by his loving family after a lengthy battle with dementia and suffering a stroke. He was saved at a young age and was a member of Calvary Baptist Church. He was a proud veteran of the U.S. Army serving during the Korean War and retired from BASF after 42 years. He had a passion for bluegrass music and loved to play his guitar until his health declined. He never met a stranger and always had a story or joke to tell anyone he talked to. His humor was contagious. He was preceded in death by his parents, Jim and Maggie Woody; brothers, George, Jim, Jack, Wayne, and Bobby; and sisters, Lois Forrester, Margaret Woody, and Mabel Woody. He is survived by his devoted wife of sixty-five years, Dorothy Woody; daughters, Patricia Collins White and Judy (Wayne) Rouse; son, Billy Wayne Woody; grandchildren, Doug Collins, Sherry (Dale) Stevenson, Denise (Mike) McGinnis, Tyler (Keena) Jones, Kevin (Carol) Rouse, Kelley (Wilson) Stevenson, and Keith (Casey) Rouse; great-grandchildren, Blaine Rouse, Brianna Rouse, Brice Collins, Corey Walker, Caleb Walker, Dakota Hopkins, Emily Walker, Harley Smith, Haley McGinnis, Mychaela McGinnis, Connor Rouse, Claire Stevenson, Collin Rouse, Emily Stevenson, Wil Stevenson, and Sofia Jones; and siblings, Reed Woody, Charles Woody, Vonda Blackwell, Shirley (Skip) Gregory, and Ross (Ruthie) Woody. The family would like to express their special thanks to Jefferson County Nursing Home, Jefferson City Health and Rehab Center, and Smoky Mountain Hospice for their continuous love, care, and support. The family will receive friends from 5 – 7 p.m. Tuesday, June 20 at Westside Chapel Funeral Home. Funeral services will follow at 7 p.m. Tuesday at the funeral home with Dr. Larry Parrott officiating. Family and friends will meet at 11 a.m. Wednesday, June 21 at Hamblen Memory Gardens for military graveside services.  Arrangements by Westside Chapel Funeral Home in Morristown.
