James W. Farmer, Jr., age 75, of Morristown, affectionately known as “Henry,” left this world as he lived in it, in his own way and in his own terms, on Thursday, August 15, 2019 at Serenity Hospice Home. He died how he lived, tough as a pine knot, strong-willed and stubborn until the very end. He was an extremely private man and the greatest Dad and Pap to his kids and grandkids. His grandkids were, in his own words, “the greatest joy of his life.” He loved his family, cutting up, fishing, watching golf, and animals. Nothing made him any happier than cooking a big spread and having his family gather around his table to eat. When Henry’s kitchen was open, his family wanted to be there. He was preceded in death by his parents, James W. Farmer, Sr. and Frances Farmer; and son, David Farmer. He is survived by his daughters, Theresa Farmer Jones (Michael) and Debbie Farmer Moore (Chad); grandkids, Noah and Ella Grace Moore; brother, Bill Farmer (Peggy Childress); sisters, Shirley Goodson (Jim) and Susie Fletcher; and best friends, Donald Finley and Mike Cooley. Special thanks to all the staff and volunteers at Serenity Hospice Home, Erika, Mandy, and Jeannie at Amedisys Home Health, Justin of Caris Hospice, Dr. Aaron Flanders and Rachel at Thompson Oncology Group of Morristown, and Dr. Eric Delay. Last, but not least, a very special thanks to Allison Dixon-Giles, whom he loved so much for being such a huge part of making his last days comfortable. The family will receive friends from 3 – 5 p.m. Sunday, August 18th at Westside Chapel Funeral Home. A memorial service will follow at 5 p.m. with his son-in-law, Michael Jones, speaking. In lieu of flowers, the family request donations to Serenity Hospice Home in Henry’s memory. Arrangements by Westside Chapel Funeral Home in Morristown.
