Major Ray Roberts Obituary

Major Ray Edward Roberts (Ret), age 71, of Morristown, entered his eternal home Sunday, April 22, 2018. He was born August 11, 1946 in Morristown to the late Robert “Bob” Newton Roberts and Sallie Buell Roberts. Ray was a member of Panther Springs United Methodist Church for 36 years, where he served as trustee. Ray served in the USAF from 1965-1969, spending part of his tour of duty in Danang, Vietnam. After graduating with a degree in Engineering from ETSU in 1976 he entered the U.S. Army. He retired in 1998 from the Army Reserves. Ray spent 23 years at Berkline, retiring in 2003. In retirement he continued to serve the community by volunteering with Appalachian Outreach and the America Red Cross. He was the Lakeway Volunteer of the Year. He was a loving husband, father, “Bapa”, brother, and friend. He was an avid dirt track fan and a lover of classic cars. Ray loved spending time at the Deer Camp and any opportunity to spend time with his family. He was preceded in death by his parents, and his brother, Robert “Mac” Roberts. He is survived by his wife of 47 years, Patricia Carmack Roberts; children, Judith (Chris) Lykens, and Lisa Rae Roberts all of Morristown; grandchildren, Brayden Lykens, Raylie Lykens, Macey Carter and Alli Davis; siblings, Rachel (Doug) Smith of Oliver Springs, Charles (Nancy) Roberts of Knoxville; sisters-in-law, Sue Roberts, Anne Foley, and Nancy Carmack; also many nieces and nephews. The family will receive friends Thursday, April 26th from 4-7 pm at Panther Springs United Methodist Church. Funeral Services will follow at 7 pm with Rev. Kristen Burkhart and Rev. Rick Spell officiating. Military Graveside services will be Friday, April 27th at 1 pm at Hamblen Memory Gardens. In lieu of flowers memorials may be made to Panther Springs United Methodist Church in Morristown, or to the Northeast TN American Red Cross. Arrangements by Westside Chapel Funeral Home in Morristown.
