Ralph William Hodge, age 75, of Talbott, succumbed to a brief illness at Tennova West Hospital surrounded by his family on Friday, May 12, 2017. Ralph was a member of Talbott Baptist Church and retired from BASF after 29 years of employment. He was a kind and gentle soul and a caring man who loved fishing and food. He enjoyed taking his famous chess cakes to anyone he thought might need a sweet treat. Ralph was always there to help family and friends at a moments notice with whatever they needed him for. Ralph absolutely adored his children and grandchildren and bragged about them to everyone he talked to. Ralph’s passing has left a great void in the hearts of all who loved him so dearly especially his children who thought nothing compared to their daddy. Ralph is survived by his wife, Margaret of 56 years; son, Tony (Sandy) Hodge; daughter, Vicky Jo (Roger) Murphy; grandchildren, Matt (Carrie) Hodge, Codie (Caleb) Whaley, Blake and Jake Murphy; great grandson, Anthony Hodge; sister, Zella Ruth (Jim) Evans; and several nephews and niece, Teresa’ special mention of his sisters-in-law, Betty, Jean, and Linda who thought of Ralph as the brother they never had. Ralph was preceded in death by his parents, Carl and Daisy Hodge. A special thank you to Tennova West staff and ETHC doctors, Stephen Miller, and Malcomb Foster who always provided such excellent care for Ralph. The family will receive friends from 5-7 pm Monday, May 15, 2017 at Westside Chapel Funeral Home. Funeral services will follow at 7 pm on Monday with Rev. Mike Henegar officiating. Family and friends will meet for a 1 pm graveside service on Tuesday, May 16th at Jefferson Memorial Gardens. Arrangements by Westside Chapel Funeral Home in Morristown.
