Shirley June Carpenter, age 79, born June 5, 1939 in Plymouth, Indiana, passed away November 21, 2018 surrounded by her loving family from a brief illness in Mishawaka, Indiana. She was preceded in death by her parents, William and Mary Richard; sisters, Jean Saygers and Joan Nethercutt; and first husband and father of their daughter, Brenda, Lawrence Batta. In 1978, Shirley married Ivan Carpenter and in the early nineties, they moved back to Morristown from Indiana, where they resided until April 2016 when Ivan passed away. Shirley moved back to Indiana where she lived with her daughter, Brenda, till her passing. Surviving are her daughters, Brenda Batta, Sharon Heist (Allen), Debra Singleton (Byron), Patricia McQuisten (Michael), and Donna Carpenter; brothers, Phillip Richard and Steve Richard (Beverly); numerous grandchildren; along with nieces and nephews. She enjoyed pen pal writing with over fifty pals with one in every state. She was an avid book reader with having more than one started at a time. She loved long drives in the country just to look at the scenery. Mom you will be forever missed but never forgotten. Fly high till we all meet again… The family will receive friends from 1 -2 p.m. Sunday, December 2 at Westside Chapel Funeral Home. Funeral services will follow at 2 p.m. Sunday with Rev. Lawerence Whitt officiating. Family and friends will meet at 11 a.m. Monday, December 3 at Carpenter Cemetery in Sneedville for graveside services.
