Thomas Wayne Blackburn, quietly passed away at the age of 87 on February 24th, 2017 at Baptist Health Care Center. He leaves behind daughters, Elice Cloud and son-in-law, Douglas, Kathy Murphy and son-in-law, Michael; son, Todd Blackburn and daughter-in-law, Wendy; and grandchildren, Thomas, Elizabeth, Allison, Rachel, Anna, Noah, and Owen. Beloved father and grandfather with a spirit and smile that filled the world, he will be missed beyond words. He was a shoulder to lean on, a holder of little hands on walks in the surf, a spinner of stories on carports to wide-eyed grandchildren, a comedian of late night card games, a man whose eyes would sparkle at the name Paul Bear Bryant, a doctor of transmissions for cars long past their warranties, a veteran of the Air Force who, yes, met Charles Lindbergh, a tireless detective for Norfolk Southern Railway who earned the respect and friendship of many a colleague, a loving husband to his wonderful wife Frieda who preceded him in this life. Most of all he was dad, our dad, and we will miss him even as we tell ourselves he is at peace now. Roll tide, dad, and thank you for all the days we were blessed to have you with us. Memorial service will be at 3:00 pm June 10th at Westside Chapel Funeral Home followed by fellowship and food at Panther Creek State Park. Arrangements by Westside Chapel Funeral Home in Morristown.
