Carolyn Aultman Whitford, went to her real home on June 19,2024 after a sudden illness. Born on December 23, 1941, she was the daughter of Wayne and Dora Lee, who began as sharecroppers and ultimately farmed their own land. As a child, she spent many days picking cotton in the hot Mississippi sun, giving her the work ethic she mirrored for her children. She met her husband, Bruce, a Yankee, while they were both working at Hunt Foods in Southern California. In August they would have been married for 61years. After earning BA and MA degrees in Business Education from the University of Southern Mississippi, she chose to stay home with her 3 children, loving every minute of being a mother. Many of the most hilarious and entertaining moments of her later life were spent with her 2 granddaughters and 2 grandsons. “She’s the best Nana ever.” An avid quilter, she made over 100 quilts for her children, grandchildren, and friends. She remained active up until a week before her death; gardening and hiking at Panther Creek were two of her favorite pastimes. As a volunteer ministry, she enhanced and maintained the Manley Baptist Library for over 15 years. She was preceded in death by her parents, Wayne and Dora Lee Aultman. She is survived by her husband, Bruce Whitford; her children, Andrew (Jan) Whitford of Athens, Georgia, Shara Whitford of Knoxville, TN, and Joel (Cathy) Whitford of Hickory, NC; her only brother, Donald (Terri) Aultman of Columbia, MS; her grandchildren she loved so much, Anna, Braden, Max, and Kara Whitford; her lifelong friend, Katie Lee; her quilter friends, Pat and Lorraine; and her dog, Daisy “sweet girl” and her cat, Charlie. Receiving for family and friends will be Tuesday, June 25th from 5:00-7:00 pm at Manley Baptist Church (old sanctuary), followed at 7:00 pm by the celebration honoring Carolyn’s life.
