David Christopher Williams, recently of Morristown, TN, passed Monday, July 20, 2020, at Morristown-Hamblen Hospital. He was 72. Born and raised in Goldsboro, North Carolina, David was the third of the twelve children of Oscar and Lucille (Smith) Williams. He graduated from Asheville Catholic High School, Saint John Vianney Hall, in Asheville, NC; East Carolina University in Greenville, NC; and earned his Ph.D. from The Catholic University of America in Washington, DC. He worked as a clinical psychologist for decades, with special emphasis on helping troubled or abused children. David met the love of his life, Christine Jernigan, of Suffolk, Virginia, on a blind date in February of 1972 and married her that December. They moved their young family to Maryland when David started his graduate studies and lived there while the three boys grew up. David and Christine raised their sons in the church and strived to model a Christian life. David’s work often required him to travel around the state, but he always found time to read political thrillers, to watch the Redskins and the Ravens on TV, and to work on crossword puzzles. After he retired and Christine passed away, he left Maryland to live with his youngest son. He loved being Pop-Pop to his three granddaughters and he stayed with them until he moved into a nursing home this spring. David was preceded in death by his parents, his wife, and his brothers Pete, Steve, and Alan. He is survived by his three sons and their wives - Randy (Kathy), Matthew (Kim), and Timothy (Maggie) - and three granddaughters. He is also survived by his sisters Cecelia, Rosie, and Barbara, and his brothers Andy, Mark, Tony, Greg, and Danny, as well as many nieces and nephews. Plans for a memorial service are on hold until it’s safer for family and friends to travel. Please leave your contact information in the online guestbook if you’d like to be notified when the service is scheduled. Arrangements by Westside Chapel Funeral Home in Morristown.
