Deward Dean “D.D.” Roberts, had a favorite verse, “…to be absent from the body, and to be present with the Lord,” 2 Corinthians 5:8. He was able to experience that verse on Wednesday, September 16, 2020, as he was called to his Heavenly home. D.D. was born in Hancock County on January 23, 1937. He accepted Jesus as his personal Savior at an early age and became a member of Yellow Branch Baptist Church in Sneedville. He later joined Barnard’s Grove Missionary Baptist Church in Bean Station where he has been an active member for forty-seven years. This was also the church where he raised his family and where he was able to oversee new construction and growth of the church. From very humble beginnings, D.D. Roberts had a desire for greater things as he built a successful career as a licensed residential and commercial contractor which spanned eight states. He was a man of integrity, had a mind for business, and was creative in finance. He never met a stranger and had great compassion for others, in which he was willing to help anyone in need. In his younger years, D.D. aspired to be a pilot and training was always something he enjoyed. He and his wife traveled the world. D.D. was preceded in death by his parents, Dave and Ina (Lawson) Roberts; and in-laws, Willard and Kathleen (Jones) Lynch. He is survived by his wife of sixty-one years, Edith (Lynch) Roberts; son, Sid (Kim) Roberts; daughters, Kathy (Danny) Lail and Alice (Mark) Rogers; He was blessed with five granddaughters, Cynthia (Seth) Ewing, Morgan (B.J.) West, Bailee (Nick) Northern, Mattie Rogers, and Kaitlyn Rogers; great-grandchildren, Jethro Ewing and baby sister on the way, Shade Ball, twins, Molly and Emmy Masoner, Tenley Northern, Nataley Northern, and Grayson Northern; he is also survived by his sister, Rosa Trent of Morristown; brother, Carson Roberts of Sneedville; and several nieces and nephews. Services were held for private family viewing and convened at Bethesda Cemetery. Arrangements by Westside Chapel Funeral Home in Morristown.
