Donald Eugene Crews, age 85, of Whitesburg, formerly of Morristown and Bean Station, went home to Glory on Thursday, April 29, 2021 at Jefferson City Health and Rehab Center from complications of dementia. He was a former employee of Dr. John Kinser, Gluck Brothers, and Lea Industries. In the 1970’s, he began a career as a bridge builder, cement mason, and iron worker on many construction projects, most notably, the Olin Marshall Bridge, as well as others in different states. He was a proud United States Army veteran and loved nature and all animals. He cherished his memories of his home-place on Cherokee Lake near German Creek Bridge. He was loved by his family and will be sadly missed. He was preceded in death by his parents, Hugh and Lilly Long Crews; sister, Bonnie Christine Crews; brother, Rev. Clarence Crews; and brother-in-law, Virgil Kirkham. Survivors include his wife of fifty-seven years, Mary Lee Bell Crews; daughter, Donita (Rick) Lawson of Morristown; sons, Tim (Melissa) Crews of Whitesburg and Jody Crews of Talbott; granddaughters, Kaylee Brooks West (Tanner) and Heather Crews; grandson, Josh Lawson; sisters, Shirley Rinhardt (Bobby) and Barbara Crews Kirkham; sister-in-law, Ida Crews; and several nieces and nephews. Special thanks to the staff of Smoky Mountain Hospice and Jefferson City Health and Rehab for their care. The family will receive friends from 5 – 7 p.m. Saturday, May 1st at Westside Chapel Funeral Home. Funeral services will follow at 7 p.m. with Rev. J.J. Harris and Rev. Dannie Bell officiating. Family and friends will meet at 2 p.m. Sunday, May 2nd at Mary’s Chapel Methodist Church Cemetery in Bean Station for graveside services. Arrangements by Westside Chapel Funeral Home in Morristown.
