Donald McGinnis Obituary

Donald Ray McGinnis, age 84, of Morristown, born October 1, 1941, passed away Tuesday, April 14, 2026 at his residence. After graduation from Morristown High School in 1959, he began his career as a meat cutter for Super Dollar Markets. He advanced to Meat Department Manager at Giant Food Markets before being promoted to Bakey/Deli Director. He continued his work as Bakery/Deli supervisor at Food City before advancing to Maplehurst Bakery as a technical sales representative. It is from Maplehurst that he retired in 2005. Since his retirement, he has enjoyed working on his farm and being involved with different community organizations. Don was a devoted man of God. He was active in the Community Fellowship in Christ Church where he attended and participated regularly. He was a man who believed in giving back to his community. Family and friends could rely on him to help with anything whether asked or not. After retirement, Don participated in several organizations that are known for community service. He was a member of the Masonic Lodge #231-Scottish Rites 32 Degree, a member of the Gideons International, served as past president of Morristown-Hamblen Lions Club, and past president of Hamblen County Car Club. Don continued to serve as active president for the Board of Directors at Alpha-Talbott Utility District until his death. He was preceded in death by his wife of fifty-one years, Mary Nell McGinnis; parents, Walter and Peggy McGinnis; sister, Linda Kay Pollard and her husband, Billy; and his son, David Lynn McGinnis of Nashville. He is survived by his daughter, Angela D. Monkhouse and her husband, Richard of Wartburg; grandchildren, Autumn Monkhouse of Kingsport and Sean Monkhouse of Savannah, GA; sister-in-law, Betty Kay Shirley of Rutledge; special friends, Bunny Bodin and Larry Beede; and several nieces, nephews, cousins, and many very close friends, all who loved him and will miss him greatly. The family will receive friends from 5 – 7 p.m. Sunday, April 19th at Westside Chapel Funeral Home. Funeral services will follow at 7 p.m. at the funeral home with Rev. Trevor Roberts officiating. Family and friends will meet at 11 a.m. Monday, April 20th at Hamblen Memory Gardens for graveside services. In lieu of flowers, the family requests donations to Community Fellowship in Christ Church or the Morristown-Hamblen Lions Club. Arrangements by Westside Chapel Funeral Home in Morristown.
