Edith L. (McCoy) Matthews

Edith L. Matthews, age 87, of Morristown, went home to be with the Lord on Wednesday, August 20, 2025 at her residence. She was a devoted follower of Jesus, an active and charter member of Manley Baptist Church, and sent prayer cards for other church members. Edith was a food service manager for twenty five years at Manley Elementary and West High School and loved to cook for her family and friends. She was a loving and devoted wife, mother, and grandmother and will be dearly missed. She was preceded in death by her parents, Ray and Ruby McCoy. She is survived by her husband of sixty seven years, Paul Matthews; sons, Gary Matthews and Larry (Julie) Matthews; grandchildren, Emily (Tim) Walton, Lindy Matthews, and Turner (Abby) Matthews; several nieces and nephews; and special family friend, Gene Widener. Special thanks to Amedisys Home Health and Hospice and caregivers, Kim Harville, Valerie Hurley, and Holly Murphy. Also, special caregiver and close family friend, Doris Loar. The family will receive friends from 5 – 7 p.m. Friday, August 22nd at Manley Baptist Church (Old Sanctuary). Funeral services will follow at 7 p.m. at the church with Rev. Turner Matthews and Rev. Alan Duncan officiating. Family and friends will meet at 10 a.m. Saturday, August 23rd at Hamblen Memory Gardens for graveside services. In lieu of flowers, the family request donations to Manley Baptist Church Building Fund. Arrangements by Westside Chapel Funeral Home in Morristown.
