Edith S. Dalton, age 81, of Bean Station, went to her Heavenly home on Thursday, May 9, 2024. She was saved as a young girl and was a member of Slate Hill Baptist Church. She passed away at her home surrounded by her family, the same home where many children were raised, many meals were shared, and much love and warmth from the wood stove that filled every room. She was kind, hard-working, and unwaveringly strong – a strength that will continue to inspire all those who knew her. She was a powerhouse who was never afraid to speak her mind and could make anyone laugh with her quick wit. She loved her puzzle books and soap operas but, most of all, she loved the family that she built. She was preceded in death by her husband of forty one years, Nelson Dalton; son, Steve Dalton; parents, Maude and Claude Purkey; and brothers, Lonnie, Bobby, and Kyle Purkey. She is survived by her daughter, Patricia (Emerson) Lumpkins; sisters, Helen (Glenn) Koontz, Kathy (Allen) Lawson, Betty (Billy) Dalton, and Julie Gibson; grandchildren, Emmi Lumpkins, Ashley (Matthew) Liparoto, Dusty (Abi) Dalton, and Kristina (Josh) Dalton; great-grandchildren, Paige Lumpkins and Athena Dalton; daughter-in-law, Rebecca Dalton; as well as a host of nieces, nephews, and many special friends and neighbors. The family would like to thank Smoky Mountain Home Health and Hospice for their compassionate care. The family will receive friends from 6 – 8 p.m. Monday, May 13th at Westside Chapel Funeral Home. Funeral services will follow at 8 p.m. with Rev. Clifford Dalton and Rev. Bob Simpson officiating. Family and friends will meet at 2 p.m. Tuesday, May 14th at First Independent Freewill Baptist Church Cemetery in Bean Station for graveside services. Arrangements by Westside Chapel Funeral Home in Morristown.
