Helen B. Hopkins Welch, age 86, of Talbott, passed away at 7:53 p.m. on Saturday, November 4, 2023 at Fort Sanders Regional Medical Center in Knoxville with her two sons by her side. She was a member of Pleasant Ridge Baptist Church but in the past few years, she worshiped with Mt. Vale Church of God. She was preceded in death by her husband of fifty-six years, Howard “Foy” Welch; parents, Haskel “Hack” and Virgie Amyx Hopkins; sisters, Edna Mae Knight, Ruby (Fain) Hill, Grace Walker, and Margie Hopkins; and brothers, Melvin Jackson Hopkins and Roy Fain Hopkins. She is survived by her two sons, Danny (Lawanda) Welch and Tim Welch; close friends, Barbara Cline and Wilma Livesay; special caregivers, Willie Mack and Brandi Ford; honorary daughters, Becky Messer, Winna Lawson, and Lisa Manis; honorary granddaughter, Tina Penn; and several nieces and nephews. Helen had a loving heart for people. She loved volunteering at Jefferson City Health and Rehab Center which she did for twelve years. Several of the residents would either call her “Moma Helen” of “Granny Helen.” She was known for her cake baking and homemade candy. Special thanks to Dr. Emmett Manley and Albert Vaugh and to the staff at Fort Sanders. The family will receive friends from 5 – 8 p.m. Wednesday, November 8th at Westside Chapel Funeral Home. Funeral services will follow at 8 p.m. with Rev. Phillip Ruth and Rev. T.H. Ferrell officiating. Family and friends will meet at Westside Chapel Funeral Home at 12:15 on Thursday, November 9th to go in procession to Community Chapel Freewill Baptist Church Cemetery for a 1 p.m. graveside service.
