Obituary

Herbert “Herb” Heinze, age 86, of Greeneville, passed away Wednesday, August 3, 2022 peacefully at his residence. He is survived by his loving wife, Cathy Heinze; daughter, Rebecca (Tim) Cleary; son, Craig (Michele) Heinze; three grandchildren, Caleigh Cleary and Ethan and Carson Heinze; and brother, Tom Heinze. He was preceded in death by his brother, Richard “Rick” Heinze; and parents, Herbert and Eleanore (Schmid) Heinze. Herb retired to Greeneville, TN from Delafield, WI in 1995. He was an active member of his community in Delafield by serving on the School Board, serving as an Alderman for the 5th District, becoming the first president of the Nagawicka Lake Improvement Association, and an active member of the Nagawicka Lake Yacht Club. While serving as an Alderman for the 5th District, he was a key figure in cleaning the lake beds, thus improving the water clarity of the lake, and for having the first sewer system installed around the lake. He served the Nagawicka Lake Yacht Club as Chief Judge, on the board of directors, and in 1980-81, he served as Commodore. Some of his loves and passions in life was sailing and the Yacht Club. He actively raced C and E scows for over 30 years and in the winters he loved ice boating, as well as curling. He truly loved the “Lake Country” life. He retired to Tennessee and bought his first horse, Harley. Herb added horses to his farm and went from mountain riding to showing. His love of horses was just as strong as his love of the lake. He served as president of the Back Country Horsemen of East Tennessee where he helped the Forest Service reclaim and maintain trails for hikers and horses. Herb saw only the good in everyone he met and he always had time to talk or to lend a hand. His heart was as big as the mountains that he and Harley will ride together in again. Rest in peace my love. Memorial services will be held at a later date in his hometown back in Wisconsin.
