James Alan Morgan, age 82, of Morristown, passed away peacefully on Tuesday, June 4, 2024. Alan was born on the family farm near Rutledge in 1941. As the youngest of three brothers, his nickname was “Babe”. He was baptized while attending Blue Springs Baptist Church. Alan graduated from Grainger County High School in 1959 and was a basketball player for the Pioneers. He served in the U.S Army on the R&R staff in Honolulu, HI in the late sixties. Alan worked for United Parcel Service for 25 years and retired in 1998. He was a member of Grace Baptist Church in Morristown for many years. Alan was a devoted, loving husband and father. He and his wife, Lila Faye (Compton), would have celebrated their 59th wedding anniversary on June 12. Alan will be greatly missed by his family: son, Todd Alan Morgan (Steven Hinkle); brothers, Jack (Carolyn) Morgan, Leon (Ruth) Morgan; sisters-in-law Velma (Charles) Wright and Vivian (Bill) Watts; brother-in-law, Will Ed Compton, Jr.; nieces, Crystal (Kevin) Bryant, Cynthia (Robert) Haun, Kim (Michael) Wise, Deanene (Thomas) Catani, and Beverly (Garrick) Jones; nephews, Scott (Nancy) Morgan and Darin Watts; and many great nieces and nephews. Alan was preceded in death by his parents, Clarence James and Mary Edith Caroline (Roach) Morgan; father-in-law, Will Ed Compton; mother-in-law, Narrisa Irene Compton Wilford; sister-in-law, Sue (Hale) Compton; and niece, Patricia Ann Morgan. The family will receive friends from 11:30 a.m. – 1:30 p.m. on Saturday, June 8th at Westside Chapel Funeral Home. Family and friends will meet at 2 p.m. Saturday at Jefferson Memorial Gardens for graveside services. In lieu of flowers the family is requesting donations to the Alzheimer’s Association at alz.org.
