James "J.C." Dearing Obituary

James “J.C.” Dearing, age 92, of Jefferson City, went to be with his Lord and Savior on Sunday, May 30, 2021 after a courageous two year battle with cancer. He has received his complete healing and is in the presence of the Lord walking on streets of gold. He was currently a member of First Baptist Church of Morristown. He was formerly a member of Magna View Baptist Church for twenty-one years before moving to Alabama for a period of time. He was a deacon, Sunday School teacher, and served on the building committee when Magna View’s new sanctuary was built, donating his time as an electrician to wire the building. J.C. served in the Army and Air Force from 1945 – 1949 and went to electrical school on the G.I. Bill. He graduated from electrical school in 1956 and worked as a journeyman electrician in several states where he was a foreman on many jobs, which also included Rockefeller Center in New York City. In 1967, he moved his family back to Tennessee and became foreman on the N.C.R. building. In 1969, he and his brother, E.C. Dearing, started Dearing Heating and Air which his son, John, now runs. He never completely retired and did small electrical jobs until he was almost ninety years old. He was always willing to lend a helping hand and donated much of his time to people in need and churches that needed electrical work. He never met a stranger and always loved people. He loved everyone enough to ask if they were a Christian because he wanted everyone to know Jesus and join him in Heaven one day. Those preceding him in death who met him at Heaven’s Gate were his parents, L.B. and Josie Dearing; sister, Kathleen Ziegler; brothers, Clifford and Glen Dearing; and grandsons, Jeremy Brooks and Travis Vineyard. He is survived by his loving wife of sixty-eight years, Dorothy Moore Dearing; daughters, Rita Dearing and Carol Brooks Jenkins; sons, James (Tami) Dearing and John (Mikitia) Dearing; grandchildren, Jason (Jenny) Brooks, Clint and Chad Dearing, Tiffany and Tia Dearing, Crystal Day, Amber (Dustin) Turley, Katy (Winston) Whitt, and Mandy Dearing; step-grandson, Josh Jenkins; great-grandchildren, Wade (Summer) Brooks, Haley Brooks, Cameron Brooks, Dru Hurst, Ashlyn Vineyard, Abbi Brooks, Abi and William Turley, Sadie Whitt, and Jordan, Cameron, and Carson; step-great granddaughter, Ava Fye; great-great grandchildren, Winter Faith and Autumn Marie Brooks; brother, E.C. (Pearl) Dearing; and several nieces and nephews. The family will receive friends from 6 – 8 p.m. Wednesday, June 2nd at First Baptist Church of Morristown. Funeral services will follow at 8 p.m. with Dr. Dean Haun officiating. Family and friends will meet at 3 p.m. Thursday, June 3rd at Jefferson Memorial Gardens for graveside services with military honors. Pallbearers will be Jason Brooks, Chad Dearing, Wade Brooks, Chris Dearing, Chris Smith, and Aaron Beckett. Arrangements by Westside Chapel Funeral Home in Morristown.
