John J. Miller, Jr., age 75, of Jefferson City, passed away Sunday, November 11, 2018 at U.T. Medical Center in Knoxville. He was born on March 18, 1943 in New Kensington, PA. He was the much loved son of the late Catherine F. and John J. Miller. He is survived by his wonderful wife, Rebecca C. Miller; sisters, Betty Jane (Richard) Wicks of Willow Grove, PA and Mae Louise (James) Woomer of Nashville; and a niece and nephew. Mr. Miller came to Morristown in 1986 to set up the ceramic core facility of Howmet, now Alcoa/Howmet, and was the unit manager for the ceramic core operation. The time at Howmet was cherished by John including the people that worked for him on staff and on the plant floor. High quality, low costs, and hard work were important factors in the success that came to the operation. In later years, John worked as an appraiser assistant at Blackburn Appraisals in Morristown. He also volunteered at Appalachian Outreach in Jefferson City. Mr. Miller graduated from Penn State with a BS in Ceramic Technology and went on to earn a PhD in Materials at Rensselaer Polytechnic University in Troy, NY and a Master of Arts in Business Administration at Baldwin-Wallace College, Berea, OH. The family will receive friends from 4 – 7 p.m. Thursday, November 15 at Westside Chapel Funeral Home. Funeral services will follow at 7 p.m. with Rev. Alan Duncan and Dr. Tony Buchanan officiating.
