Larry Dwight Tenpenny, went to his Heavenly home on Saturday, May 10. 2025, having lived a life of service, devotion, and quiet strength. A proud member of the United States Air Force, he served one tour in Vietnam and one tour in Korea. Following his military service, he worked faithfully with Ralph Rogers in Oak Ridge, Dick Wright Hardware Co., and William S. Trimble Co. in Knoxville. He was preceded in death by his father, James Owen Tenpenny, Sr.; mother, Mildred Davenport Tenpenny; and sister, Mattie Sue Garner. Larry is survived by his brothers, James “Jimmy” O. Jr. (Brenda) Tenpenny of Morristown and Eddie (Killeen) Tenpenny of Mufreesboro; brother-in-law, David Garner of Maryville; niece, Wendy Tenpenny Erwin of Knoxville; nephew, James Michael (Angela) Tenpenny of Knoxville; and many loving great-nieces and great-nephews. Larry loved the U.T. Volunteers and was an avid fisherman. He accepted Jesus as his personal Savior when he was a young boy at Inskip Baptist Church in Knoxville. The family wishes to thank Smoky Mountain Hospice and the wonderful staff at Serenity Hospice House in Morristown for the tender-loving care given to Larry and the family. We will be eternally grateful. Family and friends will meet at 12:30 p.m. Wednesday, May 21st at East Tennessee State Veteran’s Cemetery in Knoxville for military graveside services.
