Martha Bell (Garner) Gothard

Martha Bell Gothard, age 86, of Morristown, passed away Thursday, January 2, 2020 at Parkwest Hospital in Knoxville. She was a member of Power House Baptist Church. Martha was a loving mother, grandmother, and great-grandmother and will be dearly missed. She was preceded in death by her husband, Bob Gothard; daughter, Denise Smith; parents, Hence and Mae Garner; great-granddaughter, Samantha Lamb; and several brothers and sisters. She is survived by her children, Shirley Cotter, Danny Purkey, Ronnie (Donna) Purkey, and Phyllis (Bobby) Collins; former husband and their father, Buster Purkey;  brother, Earl Garner; sisters, Katherine Carroll and Virginia Qualls; seven grandchildren; and several great and great-great grandchildren.  The family will receive friends from 5 – 7 p.m. Monday, January 6th at Westside Chapel Funeral Home. Funeral services will follow at 7 p.m. with Rev. Brian Cottrell officiating. Family and friends will meet at 11 a.m. Tuesday, January 7th at Carter Cemetery for graveside services.
