Martha Lucille Adams Mathys, born August 6, 1952, in Alcoa, Tennessee, to Milton and Georgia Adams, was a 1970 graduate of Alcoa High School and lived a life marked by love, faith, and selflessness. After a brief but courageous battle with cancer, she was called home, leaving behind a legacy of kindness and light that will live on in all who knew and loved her.
On March 8, 1975, she married the love of her life, Jim Mathys, and together they built a life centered on family and devotion. She dearly loved her sons, Justin and Josh, and was a constant source of strength, warmth, and unconditional love.
Martha had a caring spirit that touched everyone around her, from family and friends to the many beloved dogs she cared for throughout her life. She and Jim loved spending weekends at their camper at Douglas Lake Campground, where they enjoyed porch sitting, boating, and making countless memories with friends.
Her faith guided her throughout her life. She was a longtime member of Middlebrook Pike United Methodist Church in Knoxville and spent decades in the NOW Circle, living out her faith through quiet service and love for others.
She was preceded in death by her parents, Milton and Georgia Adams. She is survived by her devoted husband, Jim Mathys; her sons, Justin (Monica) Mathys and their children, Bridgette, Mackenzie, and Jackson, and Josh (Ashley) Mathys and their children, Hudson and Max; her brother, Jim (Sandy) Adams; and several cousins, nieces, nephews, and sisters-in-law.
Though her family grieves deeply, they find comfort in knowing she lived a life well loved and well lived. In lieu of flowers, the family requests that memorial donations be made to St. Jude Children’s Research Hospital or the American Cancer Society.
The family will receive friends from 5-7 pm on Wednesday, July 1st at Westside Chapel Funeral Home in Morristown. Family will also have a receiving of friends from 10-11 am on Thursday, July 2nd at Sherwood Cemetery Mausoleum in Alcoa with a service to follow at 11am. Burial will follow in Sherwood Cemetery.
