Pearl Johnson Martin, of Morristown, lived a full and active ninety-five years before joining her husband, John E. Martin, in Heaven on Sunday, February 02, 2020. She had twelve brothers and sisters and her parents there to welcome her home. She was a long-time member of Alpha Baptist Church and her heart still belonged to her little home church, Panther Creek Baptist Church in Sneedville. She was very proud of three things in her life: her family, her heritage, and her work. She helped three children, Cathy (Bill) Daniel, Eddy (Sharon) Martin, and Janey (Mike) Crabtree, to grow and she taught them to value Jesus, people, music, and having fun. She loved her grandchildren, Stephanie Daniel Webster, Matthew Martin, Nathan Martin, and Lyndsay Crabtree Brown. Her joy was found in her sweet great-granddaughters, Brianna Webster, Briley Webster, and Kynnedy Brown. She was the daughter of Lafayette “Fate” J. and Fannie Johnson, born in Sneedville on September 13, 1924, and was proud of her Appalachian heritage. She was a strong woman who survived breast cancer at the age of 78 and had heart surgery at 88 years old. After heart surgery, she taught the hospital staff how to dance the Charleston before she left. She found a way to dance through life. Pearl was known as the “Walmart Lady” and took great pride in that title and work. She was a fixture at Walmart’s door for many years. The family will receive friends from 5 - 7 p.m. Tuesday, February 4th at Westside Chapel Funeral Home. Funeral services will follow at 7 p.m. with Rev. Bill Daniel and Rev. Brock Webster officiating. Family and friends will meet at 11 a.m. Wednesday, February 5th at Jefferson Memorial Gardens for graveside services. Arrangements by Westside Chapel Funeral Home in Morristown.
