Rev. Christopher Vance Hazelwood

Rev. Christopher Vance Hazelwood, age 55 of Morristown, won his battle with cancer and passed from this life to his Heavenly home on Monday, June 3, 2024. Chris was born on January 6, 1969 to Ivan and Billie Jo Hazelwood. He was the pastor of Liberty Baptist Church in Morristown and was employed with Morristown Fastenal for twenty two years before retiring in 2022. Chris was a loving husband, son, brother, uncle, friend, and pastor and will be dearly missed. Chris is survived by his wife of thirty years, Christie Hazelwood; sister and brother-in-law, Carolyn and J.B. McCarter; nephew and wife, David and Haley Slagle; niece and husband, Desirea and Richie Rader, all of Morristown; in-laws, Mickey and Dianne Fagan of Phenix City, Alabama; brother-in-law and wife, Robert and Shaunte Fagan of Salem, Alabama; nephews and nieces, Damian, Destiny, Robert, Jr., Rayleigh, and Ledger Fagan of Phenix City and Salem, AL; and five great nephews and one great niece. He was preceded in death by his parents, Ivan and Billie Jo Hazelwood; and grandparents, Ervin and Lena Hazelwood and James and Dussie Ailshie. We want to share Chris’ testimony of his faith and salvation in our Lord Jesus Christ. Chris accepted the Lord Jesus as his Savior in a Sunday School class at Morristown Baptist Tabernacle in 1979. In 1995, Chris surrendered to the call to preach and he preached his first message on August 2, 1995. He served as a deacon, Sunday School teacher, and usher for fifteen years until being called as pastor of Liberty Baptist Church in October 2014. Brother Chris faithfully served Liberty Baptist Church until he was called home to be with his Lord. The family would like to thank Smoky Mountain Hospice for their exceptional care of Chris with special thanks to nurse Patrick. The family will receive friends from 6 – 8 p.m. Friday, June 7th at Liberty Baptist Church. Funeral services will follow at 8 p.m. with Rev. Kenny Freeman and Brother Mike Blaylock officiating. Family and friends will meet at 11 a.m. Saturday, June 8th at Jarnagin Cemetery for graveside services. In lieu of flowers, the family request donations to Liberty Baptist Church Missions Fund.
