Rev. Garry Brewer Obituary

Garry E. Brewer: It is with great sadness that we announce the passing of Reverend Garry E. Brewer on June 1, 2024 at the age of 73 after a battle with dementia. He is now whole and sure to be rejoicing and having revival in heaven.  Special thanks to Amedisys Hospice and Dr. Gupta. Garry was well known for many reasons. He was born on February 26, 1951 and was raised in Sneedville by his beloved Granny, Onie Brewer, whom he called Mom. He loved the Lord with all his heart, and it was with extraordinary joy that he shared the word of God throughout many churches as a preacher as well as a Sunday school teacher. Most recently Garry attended Little Redeemed Primitive Baptist Church where he taught Sunday school as long as his health permitted. He retired from the USPS after 32 years of dedicated service where he took immense pride in his route and would go above and beyond to help his customers. He made many friends during his time as a mail carrier. Garry was talented as a craftsman and loved to work outside. He loved fellowship and visiting family and friends. He enjoyed participating in Civil War reenactments with one of his best friends, Wayne “Milum” Antrican. Garry also enjoyed attending reunions with his classmates from Sneedville High School class of 1969. Garry was preceded in death by his grandparents, Wiley & Onie Brewer; father, Garrett Brewer; mother, Kathleen Harmon; beloved stepmother, Mary Brewer; granddaughter, Chelsie Brewer; grandson TJ Stapleton; and brother, Robert Perry. Garry is sorely missed by his survivors: loving wife, Margaret Brewer; special caregivers, his daughter, Laura (Jim) Jackson, granddaughter Janna Jackson, and brother-in-law, L.H. Haynes; sons, Dwain (Christy) Brewer, Chad (Kristy) Brewer, and Derrick (Katie) Brewer; step-daughter, Lisa (Steve) Cochran; many grandchildren; several special nieces and nephews; special sister-in-law, Mary Rose (Sonny) Gill, Peggy (Robert) Glutch,.and Janice (Jimmy) Asbury; sisters, Betty Mclemore, Barbara Lyons of Florida, Linda Vollmerhausen of Maryland, and Penny Brewer of Bean Station. The family will receive friends from 5 – 7 p.m. Wednesday, June 5th at Westside Chapel Funeral Home. Funeral services will be at 11 a.m. Thursday, June 6th at Little Redeemed Primitive Baptist Church with Rev. Donnie McNabb, Rev. Shane Russell, and Rev. Dwain Brewer officiating. The body will lie in state 30 minutes prior to the service. Interment will follow at Hamblen Memory Gardens. Pallbearers will be L.H. Haynes, Eli Frye, John Tucker, Wayne “Milum” Antrican, Leaman Maxey, Louie Weston, and Cole Brewer. Arrangements by Westside Chapel Funeral Home in Morristown.
