Shirley Shockley Obituary

Shirley Booker Shockley, of Morristown, passed away peacefully with her son and granddaughter by her side at the age of 88 on Thursday, February 27, 2025. Shirley was born to Ulysses Simpson and Mossie May Booker on November 10, 1936. Shirley was a deeply spiritual woman who had a passion for serving others and raising her family to love the Lord. She was an inspiration to all who knew her and was loved and admired by many. Shirley was heavily involved in the Morristown community, and she became the First Lady of Morristown when her husband was elected as Mayor of Morristown in 1995 after he served in the Tennessee State Legislature as State Representative and later State Senator. Shirley prioritized faith in community by attending Manley Baptist Church from the time of the church’s inception up until her death. A loving servant of God, Shirley spent her time serving at church multiple days a week, loving and feeding her friends and family, and showing the love of God wherever she went. Everyone who had the privilege to know Shirley loved her, and knew they were loved by her in return. Now that Shirley has passed into the arms of her Lord and Savior, her physical life on earth is over, but it is the beginning of a beautiful, eternal journey for her. She will be remembered as a loving wife, mother, grandmother, sister, and friend. Shirley joins her parents, Mossie May and U.S. Booker, Sr.; sisters, Ann Sanders, Ruth Booker, and Emily Booker; brothers, U.S. Booker, Jr. and Joe Booker; husband, Sen. J.B. Shockley; and daughter, Tammy Hinkle, in Heaven. She is survived by her son, Greg Shockley; brother, George Booker; sister, Charlene Hill; grandchildren, Matthew and Megan Harville, Jonathan Shockley, and Danielle McCrary; and great grandchildren, Isabella, Isaiah, Isaac, and Jude Harville. Special thanks to the Memory Care Unit at Regency and to Caris Hospice. The family will receive friends from 5 – 7 p.m. Monday, March 3rd at Manley Baptist Church in the old Sanctuary. Funeral services will follow at 7 p.m. at the church with Rev. Tony Buchanan, Rev. Alan Duncan, and Dr. Joe Hamlet officiating. Entombment services will be at 2 p.m. Tuesday, March 4th at Hamblen Memory Gardens Mausoleum. John 11:25-26: “I am the resurrection and the life. Those who believe in me, even though they die, will live, and everyone who lives and believes in me will never die.” In lieu of flowers, the family request donations to the Memory Care Unit at Regency: 739 E. 2nd North Street, Morristown, TN 37814.
