Sondra "Sossie" (Shepherd) Pearson

Sondra Shepherd Pearson, affectionately known by many as “Sossie,” slipped into eternity on Wednesday, May 24, 2023. She was an active member and mighty prayer warrior of Grace Baptist Church for sixty-one years, stating the church is her home. Sondra graduated with an Associate’s degree from Walters State Community College and then earned her Bachelor’s degree, summa cum laude, from Carson-Newman University, with graduate hours from the University of Tennessee. She was a Hamblen County school teacher for twenty-three years. She had a heart for children and always enjoyed hearing from them throughout the years. After retiring, she volunteered at the Pregnancy Crisis Center. She was a member of Delta Kappa Gamma. Mrs. Pearson was preceded in death by her treasured husband of fifty-eight years, Barney Lee Pearson; and parents, Rufus and Mary Nelle Shepherd of Bulls Gap. She is survived by her daughter, Sharon (Michael) Martin; granddaughters, Ashley (Chris) Russell and Emily (Ryan) Shuler; great- granddaughters, Delaney Quinton and Brynlee Shuler; brother, Sam Shepherd; nieces, Cari (Jason) Reynolds and Jenny (Wesley) Wyatt; nephews, Philip Shepherd, Jim Pearson, and Perry (Pat) Pearson; great-nephew and niece, Tucker and Layla Wyatt; and also her beloved church family and many special friends she has been blessed to share this life with along the way. A memorial service will be held at a later date at Grace Baptist Church and a private interment at Shepherd Cemetery. Memorial donations may be made to Shepherd Cemetery c/o Rachael Stewart, P.O.
