Tracy Roland Walker, born December 3, 1960, passed away peacefully on Sunday, September 21, 2025 at Life Care Center of Morristown, where he was a resident for nineteen years. He was preceded in death by his parents, Ruth and Hall Walker; brother, Terry Walker; maternal grandparents, Edith and Tom Odom; paternal grandparents, Henry Clay Walker and Eda Livesay Walker; aunts, Grace (Aden) Brady and Christeen (Ed) Campbell; honorary cousins, Dr. Bob Overholt, Geraldine (Hubert) Shannon, Kenny (Muriel) Collins, and Wayne Collins.
He is survived by his brother, Thomas “Tom” (Marian) Walker; nieces, Paige, Kelly, and Leslie; sister-in-law, Yong Walker; nephews, Zack and Kevin Walker; honorary aunt, Christeen Elkins; cousins, Velma “Sis” Orrick; and honorary cousins, Angela Brady Kreitz, Penny Collins Tolliver, Renae Shannon Simmons, Jason Collins, and Cindy, Johnny, and Ricky Carson.
Tracy was raised by both his parents and his aunt, Grace and uncle, Aden. He was a smart kid and a good student. He graduated from East High School in 1979. In February, 1982, he was injured on his way home from work when he was rear-ended on his motorcycle. A “good Samaritan” stopped, recognized Tracy, and contacted Tracy’s parents. Tracy was in a coma for five months. After waking, he went through healing and rehabilitation for many months. He was confined to a wheelchair and his short-term memory was mostly gone.
Tracy’s parents cared for him at home for as long as they could before he was moved to Life Care Center of Morristown in 2006. Tracy worked several jobs, but mostly as manager at Wendys prior to his accident. His favorite things were music, architecture, cooking, and his Mountain Dews. Even with his health challenges, he always had a big smile to share and loved to tease the staff at Life Care. Often, he would be heard singing and enjoyed participating in the activities. He was a member of Fairfield Baptist Church and particularly enjoyed Bible study at Life Care. One of his favorite things to do in recent years was sitting outside with his cousin/sis, Velma, and “painting pictures” with the clouds, as he called it. He always enjoyed visits from his brother, Tommy, and appreciated his support.
The family extends special thanks and appreciation to Tracy’s Life Care family and caretakers for the many years of friendship and care extended to him. Also, to roommates, Mikey Nichols for the fun he brought, and David Siviter, his roommate for the last few years, for his love and protective concern for Tracy. Also, thanks to Gentiva Hospice staff for their attentive care over the last few months. Family and friends will meet at 1 p.m. Wednesday, September 24th at Hamblen Memory Gardens for graveside services with Rev. Scott Helton officiating. Remembrances may be left at westsidechapelfuneralhome.com. Arrangements by Westside Chapel Funeral Home in Morristown.
