Treca Roberts Russell Obituary

Treca Russell Roberts, age 48, went home to Jesus on December 1, 2019, after suffering complications arising from cardiac arrest. Treca was born to Wayne and Jean Roberts on October 24, 1971, in Jefferson City, Tennessee. As a child, she excelled in school, played piano and trumpet, and sang in the Christian band, Found, her brother formed. She was an accomplished photographer—a passion which began as a child and developed while Treca was an English/Education Major at Carson-Newman University. Treca was also an avid reader and has developed a substantial personal library. Treca became a Christian in 1978 and was baptized at age six at Deep Springs Baptist Church in Dandridge, Tennessee. Throughout her entire life, she held an unwavering faith in God, which she constantly shared with those who surrounded her.

Along with being a dedicated and loving daughter, sister, aunt, friend, and mother, Treca also loved teaching school at Cornerstone Christian Academy in Morristown, Tennessee.  In addition to investing in the lives of children by teaching second grade since Cornerstone was founded in 2006, she served as a mentor teacher, a member of the Curriculum Committee and the School Improvement Council, school coordinator of the Scripps National Spelling Bee Program, Christmas Pageant Director, member of the Cornerstone Faculty Choir, and Assistant Coach to the Girl’s Varsity Basketball Team. Treca has been an active member at Lakeway Community Church for approximately six years where she sang with the Worship Team, taught the Children’s Bible Study Class, participated in various community service projects, and volunteered annually with Operation Christmas Child. Treca’s unselfish nature, loving heart, and artistic ability have given her numerous opportunities to share the love of Jesus to those with whom she came in contact. Treca joins her cousin, Mike James, her grandparents, Troy and Mary Roberts, and Tandy and Fleta Dalton, her uncle, J.T. Dalton, and her great-grandmother, Hattie Mae Roberts, in Heaven. She is survived by her parents, Wayne and Jean Roberts; her brother, Trevor Roberts (Lori); her sister, Treva Ogle (Scott); her step-children, Mitchell and Kristiana Russell; her nieces, Kayleigh, Jenna, and Lilliana Roberts and Emma Ogle; her uncle and aunt, Tony and Marie James; her cousin, Mark James; and many other dear friends, family members, coworkers, and students. The family will receive friends from 5:00-7:00 PM on Tuesday, December 3rd at Westside Chapel Funeral Home, 3521 West Andrew Johnson Highway, Morristown, Tennessee, with a Celebration of Treca’s life to follow at 7:00 p.m. with  Rev. Mark Abernathy officiating. Graveside services will be at Jefferson Memorial Gardens at 11:00 AM on Wednesday, December 4th. Pallbearers include Trevor Roberts, Scott Ogle, Troy Ogle, Skylar Hamilton, Alex Good, and Byron Turkett.  Honorary pallbearers are Chris and Seth Cate. In lieu of flowers, a donation can be made in memory of Treca Russell to Lakeway Community Church, 1855 Sulphur Springs Road, Morristown, Tennessee, 37813.

The last verse of a treasured song, “How Could I Ask for More,” written by Cindy Morgan and often performed by Treca, speaks volumes about Treca’s outlook on her short time with us:

“So if there's anything I've learned from this journey I am on
Simple truths will keep you going, simple love will keep you strong
'Cause there are questions without answers and flames that never die
And heartaches we go through are often blessings in disguise
So thank you, Lord.
How could I ask for more?”
