Vance "Hobo" Moore

Vance “Hobo” Moore, age 73, of Morristown, passed away Saturday, August 1, 2026 at his residence. Vance retired after many years as a dedicated driver with Old Dominion Freight Line, a career he took pride in. According to Vance, he was the best driver on the road, and that confidence was just part of who he was. Vance was a simple man who enjoyed drag racing and never pretended to be anyone else and you always knew where you stood with him. He spoke his mind, valued honesty, and earned respect from those around him from being genuine. Beneath his straight forward nature was a loyal friend who never met a stranger. He was always devoted to his beloved dogs, Molly and Hatchet, who were faithful companions. He was preceded in death by his wife, Joyce Ann Moore; parents, Clister and Mabel Moore; and brother, Steve Moore. He is survived by his children, Cherra (Chris) Moore, Amy (Cameron) Hawk, and Joe (Tori) Moore; brother, Wayne (Kathie) Moore; eight grandchildren; eight great-grandchildren; and many special friends. The family will receive friends from 6 – 8 p.m. Wednesday, August 5th at Westside Chapel Funeral Home. Funeral services will follow at 8 p.m. with Rev. Donnie McNabb and Doyle Byrd officiating. Family and friends will meet at the funeral home at 10:30 to go in procession for an 11 a.m. graveside service on Thursday, August 6th at Morelock Cemetery.
