Virginia "Chris" Christine (Mayes) Strickland

Virginia Christine Mayes Strickland, lovingly known as “Chris” by her family and friends, passed away peacefully on May 10, 2025 in Lenoir City, TN at the age of 77. She was born on June 29, 1947 in Morristown, TN. Chris spent the last year in the devoted care of her loving sister, Paula Mayes Shipley. She was preceded in death by her parents, Earl and Betty Mayes; and her beloved husband, Ernie Strickland. She is survived by her brothers, Don Mayes and Scott Mayes; and sister, Paula Shipley. Chris is also remembered fondly by many extended relatives and dear friends. A woman of steadfast faith and quiet strength, Chris was a lifelong member of Kidwells Ridge Baptist Church in Morristown, TN. She also spent several years living in Concord, North Carolina, where she touched many lives with her warmth and kindness. Chris will be remembered for her kind heart, enduring faith, and deep love she shared with her family. The family will receive friends from 12 – 1 p.m. Saturday, May 17th at Kidwells Ridge Baptist Church. Funeral services will follow at 1 p.m. at the church with Rev. Danny Lamb officiating.
